Is it his OCD, or is it his intrusiveness or his ever-smiling passive aggressiveness? Fahadh plays his role flawlessly, making you laugh nervously. There is something menacing about Shammy. Her sister, played by Grace Antony, has just recently married Shammy, portrayed by Fahadh Faasil. While doing a one-off fishing job which is basically a demonstration for tourists, Bobby kindles an affair with tourist guide Babymol, played by newcomer Anna Ben, whose family also runs a homestay. These are not the kind of real characters we are used to seeing in our films, and 'Kumbalangi Nights' feels more special for that. Saji and Bobby are a couple of losers spending their days lying around without doing any work and mooching off others. There is a shed-like house in which four step and half-brothers, played by Shane Nigaam (Bobby), Soubin Shahir (Saji), Sreenath Bhasi and promising young, footballer Mathews, come and go, but not before trading punches and barbs with each other. The story takes its time to unfold, without feeling like a drag, in the first half in the fishing hamlet of Kumbalangi. Well, ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ gives all the actors the chance to prove that statement and every one of them delivers unfailingly in this charming little movie, ably directed by first-timer Madhu C Narayanan. Tracking down his more ‘unsavoury’ allies, Serena is shocked to encounter a familiar face: that of her grieving ex-partner, former Malaysian ICD officer Megat Jamil (Bront Palarae).Story: The film is a story of four brothers, and how a handful of situations test their sibling dynamics. As Serena and Heri work together to catch the killer, their inquiries lead them to industrialist/kingpin Datuk Ishak Hassan (Wan Hanafi Su), whose prominent family and known associates all have some connection to the victims. Seeking answers, Heri finds a way to insert himself into the Malaysian investigation. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, for ICD Lieutenant Heriyanto Salim (Ario Bayu), the case turns personal when his brother is found murdered in similar circumstances.

Called in to investigate, Singaporean International Crimes Division (ICD) officer Serena Teo (Rebecca Lim) takes charge of a case across the border where a family has been slaughtered aboard a luxury yacht in Johor. A series of brutal murders, each sharing a signature MO, takes place across Malaysia and Indonesia.
